Recent Geological Evolution of the Lake Abhe Basin Using Multitemporal Satellite Images

چکیده
We used a multitemporal and multisensor satellite dataset to investigate the geological evolution of a tectonic basin of the East African Rift. The study area is the Lake Abhe-Goba'ad basin which is located at the border between Djibouti and Ethiopia. This area is the southern portion of a wide triangle-shaped depression, the Afar Depression. The Afar is one of the Earth's most geologically active regions during PlioQuaternary times. In fact, it is located at the junction of two oceanic rifts (Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, respectively) and a continental one (Main Ethiopian Rift) forming a triple junction [1]. The Afar formation started during the early Oligocene [2]. and it's characterized by the extrusion of an enormous volumes of basalt [3]. Different models have been proposed to explain the present geological setting and the Plio-Quaternary evolution of Afar depression [4,5,2].

Paleogeomorphology Reconstruction of Della Landslide and the Formation of the Shimbar Dam Lake in Indica – Khuzestan province
the occurrence of landslides in the direction of rivers, especially in the mountainous regions of Zagros range are processes that block rivers and form lake barriers. Della Landslide is an example of such landslide that occurred in the course of Shimbar River drainage and eventually created Lake Shimbar. geoarchaeological field studies performed on this slide using topographic maps, geological,...

There are some Geomorphologic evidences of climate changes as alternate dry and wet climate in central parts of Iran. Maharloo Lake is a location that has protected the mentioned evidences as surfaces of detrital and evaporating sediments. The Lake drains an area of 4266 km2 and its present- day climate is dry so that evaporation is more than precipitation. Its climatic and lithological conditi...
متن کاملUse of Landsat Land Surface Temperature and Vegetation Indices for Monitoring Drought in the Salt Lake Basin Area, Turkey
The main purpose of this paper is to investigate multitemporal land surface temperature (LST) changes by using satellite remote sensing data. The study included a real-time field work performed during the overpass of Landsat-5 satellite on 21/08/2011 over Salt Lake, Turkey. Normalized vegetation index (NDVI), vegetation condition index (VCI), and temperature vegetation index (TVX) were used for...
متن کاملassessment of land-cover change in South part of Lake Urmia using satellite imagery
Study of land use/cover changes is widely used in environmental planning. During the last decade, growing increase of aridity in Uromiyah Basin has become a major regional and even national problem. The purpose of this study is to reveal the changes in land use/cover in the southern and southeastern parts of the basin with using 2 images for month of July of 2000 to 2017. Landsat TM and OLI dat...
متن کاملAssessment of drought and landuse changes: Impacts on groundwater quality in Shabestar basin, North of Lake Urmia
Management of groundwater quality is very important in arid and semi-arid areas. In this study, satellite images from TM, ETM and OLI sensors were used to evaluate the impacts of land use changes on groundwater quality for 1990, 2007 and 2015 in Shabestar basin. After processing and analyzing images, the basin was classified into five land use classes including pasture, bare land, farming, gard...
